Injured starting quarterback Tyler Murphy threw on a limited basis in practice Tuesday and is questionable for Saturday’s game against Georgia Southern, Florida coach Will Muschamp said Wednesday.
“He threw a little bit (Tuesday) and we’ll see what else he can do today,” Muschamp said on the SEC coaches’ teleconference.
“If we had to play today, (redshirt freshman) Skyler (Mornhinweg) would start and be ready to go in the game. He had a good day yesterday. We’ll see what Tyler can do as we move closer to the weekend.”
Murphy missed last Saturday’s game against South Carolina with a sprained right shoulder after he was unable to throw in practice leading up to the game.
Muschamp said Murphy’s shoulder has improved, although it’s too early in the week to know if he’ll be able to play Saturday.
“It’s all about his comfort level now,” Muschamp said. “It’s gotten better every day. You look from Sunday to today, it’s much, much, much improved.
“We’ll just continue to work through that. It’s all about his comfort level right now. The shoulder is stable. All of that is about his comfort level.”
Muschamp announced that two injured starters will miss Saturday’s game — offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (sprained knee) and cornerback Marcus Roberson (sprained ankle).
“D.J. will be out. He tried to do some things yesterday and it’s just not strong enough in the MCL. Hope to get him back next week,” Muschamp said. “Marcus Roberson will be out. Hopefully, we’ll get him back next week.”
