Three Clay County runaways, including a 13-year-old driver fleeing Columbia County sheriff’s deputies, crashed into another car when the 13-year-old ran through a red light early Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Minor injuries were reported from the accident, which happened at 6:15 a.m. on Pinemount Road at U.S. 90 in Lake City, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two Middleburg boys, ages 13 and 14, and a 13-year-old Middleburg girl were northbound on Pinemount Road in a 2007 SUV while Jeremy Wayne Boyett, 43, of Lake City was westbound on U.S. 90 driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra.

FHP reported that Boyett had stopped at a red light and drove into the intersection when the light turned green. The teen driver ran the red light and hit Boyett’s pickup truck.

Boyett and a passenger, Heather Lee Boyett, 35, were treated for minor injuries at UF Health Shands Hospital in Lake City. None of the teens were injured. The 13-year-old driver was charged by FHP with various traffic offenses, including failure to stop at the red light and driving without a license.
