Putnam County health officials are advising people in the area to watch out for rabid raccoons.

There have been two recent instances of raccoons showing aggressive and unusual behavior in San Mateo and Satsuma, the Florida Department of Health in the county said in a news release.

Officials said people should avoid contact with any animal they do not know and to report unusual behavior to animal control. Owners also should make sure their pets have a current rabies vaccination.

If you or your pets have had any contact with a wild animal, you may call The Florida Department of Health in Putnam County at 386-326-3200, Animal Control at 386-329-0396 or the Sheriff’s Office at 386-329-0800.
