ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Savannah Jordan scored her 22nd goal of the season and Havana Solaun added a score about seven minutes later to stake top-seeded Florida to a quick 2-0 lead before having to hold back fourth-seeded Ole Miss to win 2-1 in Friday's SEC Tournament semifinals.
Florida (17-3-1), which won a share of the SEC regular-season title, looks to win its 11th league tournament trophy outright Sunday when the Gators play second-seeded Texas A&M at 2 p.m. on ESPNU at the Orange Beach SportsPlex. The Aggies (16-4-1) defeated South Carolina 2-1 in the other semifinal later Friday.
Ole Miss (15-5-2) scored at the 29:07 mark of the first half to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Gators, who won the tourney last year, played strong defense the rest of the way to maintain the upper-hand.
“Especially in the second half, the only thing we didn't do very efficiently was finish,” Florida coach Becky Burleigh said. “We had a lot of really good opportunities and I would have liked to have seen us get a few more goals. At this stage, it's about win and move on.”
The Rebels were playing without first-team All-SEC selection Rafaelle Souza, who had departed Orange Beach to make an appearance with the Brazilian National Team.
The Gators out-shot the Rebels 17-9 in the match.
