Owner Rinardo Jason Booth offers deliveries locally, across state

Being observant and having an understanding of what was going on around him led Rinardo Jason Booth to start his own courier service.

Booth is the president and founder of J&J Courier Service, which he founded in 2011 after gaining valuable experience in the courier and paralegal industries.

"I used to drive semi-trailer trucks from 2007 to 2009, and from 2009 to mid-2011, I did a lot of work with other courier companies that are larger than I am, like Blue Streak, Courier Express and different courier services that are right up under UPS and FedEx," said Booth. "I have about seven years of experience in this industry."

Booth hires independent contractors to help him with the business and he said they all pride themselves on being very prompt and expeditious. He said the business specializes in same-day and next-day deliveries for businesses and regular residents. He said most of his deliveries are single boxes, but he does have the capability to deliver heavy freight.

Booth said his experience in the industry made him realize there was a demand for more courier services. He said he did a lot of research by studying the U.S. Postal Service, UPS and FedEx to find out how they have been successful.

Booth graduated from P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School in 2000, before going on to graduate in 2005 from Troy University in Troy, Ala., with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Booth also furthered his education by getting certified as a paralegal at City College in Gainesville. He said it was while working as a paralegal that he really saw the demand for courier services.

He said he used to do a lot of official paper work as a paralegal that he had to deliver to the Alachua County Courthouse. He said he also used to get a lot of requests from out-of-town attorneys asking him to deliver official documents to the court, as well.

"That's really when I realized I could be doing this as a small business owner," Booth said.

Booth said he has been able to grow his business by providing great customer service, which has led to a lot of word-of-mouth business, and because there is a great demand for courier services. Booth said his business covers a 300-mile radius that stretches from near Tampa to Jacksonville and from the Orlando area to the Tallahassee area.

Booth said places like Sam's and Sears, which sell furniture and appliances, help him to get a lot of business because people use his service to have beds and appliances delivered. He said he also gets a lot of business from medical facilities that need specimens delivered to local labs.

Booth said he had a business plan, but he had to revamp it because the demand for courier services is constantly evolving. For example, he said he never thought he would be delivering lunches to a child care center, something he does for Kristie's The Caring Place Inc. in northwest Gainesville.

"I got a call out of the blue for that and doing that was nowhere in my business plan," Booth said.

Booth said his business will continue to be successful because of the professionalism he expects from himself and his contractors. According to Garrick Crocker, general manager of The Sign Universe in southwest Gainesville, that professionalism is second to none.

"They are all awesome," Crocker said. "We call them up, and they ask a couple of quick questions, and then bam, they are here, and then bam, we get an email saying the delivery has been made successfully. I never have to worry about anything. They are just awesome."
