Bobcats swim to second place at district meet

Buchholz girls' swim team, led by sophomore Savannah Fissenden who won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 back, finished second at Wednesday's District 1-4A swim meet at the O'Connell Center.

The Bobcat girls were eight points behind first-place Spruce Creek. Fissenden won the 200 IM in 2:14.35 and won the 100 back in 1:01.70. Other Buchholz winners were Rachel McKivigan (200 free, 1:58.16), Christie Bassett (tied for 1st in 50 free, 24.41) and Tierney Shimansky (500 free, 5:12.22).

The Bobcats' foursome of Bassett, Fissenden, Shimansky and Anna Chubina won the 200 medley relay (1:54.09). Bassett, Fissenden, McKivigan and Lizzy Prindle won the the 200 free relay in 1:42.55.

Buchholz finished sixth in the boys competition. Many Bobcat swimmers will advance to next week's Region 1-4A meet at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando.
