The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a Middleburg man Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash last week that killed a man in a wheelchair.

Christopher Michael Hovey Sr., 40, turned himself in to the authorities at the Clay County jail in Green Cove Springs, according to a news release from the FHP. Hovey told authorities he was involved in the Oct. 20 crash that killed Christopher Strickland.

Strickland, 32, was on his way to his house when a 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer struck him at around 10 p.m. while Strickland was crossing North Mimosa Avenue near Sesame Street in Middleburg. Strickland died Friday from his injuries, the news release said.

Hovey’s 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer was taken by FHP as evidence, the news release said.

Hovey was charged with failure to remain at a crash involving a death. He was being held at the Clay County jail in lieu of $25,003 bond.
