The City Commission is expected to select an interim Gainesville Regional Utilities general manager to replace the resigning Bob Hunzinger during a special meeting Thursday.
Internal candidates are David Beaulieu, the assistant general manager for energy delivery, and Kathy Viehe, the assistant general manager for customer support services.
A third candidate from within the ranks of GRU, David Richardson, withdrew from consideration via email Wednesday. Richardson, the assistant general manager for water and wastewater systems, has been serving as interim chief financial officer after the resignation of former CFO Jennifer Hunt.
In the email, Richardson said he felt “the best way for me to contribute to GRU” was to remain the interim CFO. Hunzinger’s resignation is effective Nov. 15.
Also Thursday, commissioners are scheduled to discuss a letter from the County Commission requesting that county officials are included in the discussion and planning of steps to mitigate noise and dust issues at the biomass plant.
The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. at city Hall, 200 E University Ave.
