Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened Sunday night at the Sweet Dreams ice cream shop at 3437 W. University Ave.

The Gainesville Police Department said a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes, a black mask and gloves entered the ice cream shop at 7:47 p.m.

The man robbed the lone clerk at gunpoint using a silver handgun. He also demanded the business’s cash and fled with an undisclosed amount, police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias said.

Patrols in the area will increase, and the investigation will continue, he said.
