Police arrested a Gainesville man after they say he threatened another man with a kitchen knife on Thursday.
Gainesville police said the victim was visiting a mutual friend of his and Anthony St Angelo, 35, of 3427 SW 30th Terrace, Apt. 54, at the Palm Village apartments. The victim told police he and St Angelo were friends from the military, according to the police report.
Police said the victim was on the back porch of the apartment when St Angelo rode up on a bicycle. St Angelo got off the bicycle and pulled a large kitchen knife he had been hiding and swung it at the victim, the police report said.
The victim said he protected his life by taking St Angelo to the ground and choking him until he was unconscious. The victim told police he was “distraught” and “would have to visit a psychiatrist for therapy” because of the incident, according to the report. The victim also asked police for a restraining order against St Angelo, the report said.
Officials found a large kitchen knife at the scene that matched the description given by the victim, the report said. St Angelo told police the victim choked him until he was unconscious but said he did not attack the victim or possess the kitchen knife.
St Angelo was charged with one felony count of aggravated assault. He was being held as of Friday at the Alachua County jail on $10,000 bond.
