Restaurant news

* Bella Donna: Bella Donna's Italian Eatery announced on its Facebook page early last Tuesday morning that it was closing at 1023 W. University Ave. and is looking for a new location.

The owners could not be reached for comment.

Joe Feulner told The Sun for an Oct. 9 article that he planned to close for the summer next year because of slow business following the spring semester and the high cost of cooling the restaurant.

Bella Donna's opened in March 2012.

* Zoes Kitchen: Two new food businesses have announced plans to open in newly redeveloped locations in Butler Plaza.

Zoes Kitchen, a Mediterranean and Southern fast-casual restaurant, is coming to Butler Plaza with plans to open Jan. 9, 2014, according to Butler Enterprises.

The menu will include kabobs, pitas, sandwiches and salads, with gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

The Birmingham, Ala.-based business has 98 locations in 15 states, including four in Florida. The Gainesville location will offer catering and include indoor and outdoor patio seating.

Zoes will be in the new building at 3730 Archer Road that includes Pink Narcissus and Yogurtology.

* Gigi's Cupcakes: Gigi's Cupcakes is coming to the Butler Plaza building under construction at 3524 Archer Road with plans to open in December along with the previously announced BurgerFi and WhichWich.

Gigi's offers cupcakes, mini cupcakes and cheesecakes. Gluten-free cupcakes will be available every Friday.

The gourmet cupcake boutique started in Nashville, Tenn., in 2008 and has grown to 84 locations in 24 states.

The local franchise is owned by Nicole and Eric Rollins of Gainesville.

Warehouse Restaurant and Lounge: The Warehouse Restaurant and Lounge stopped serving lunch in July.

"We have tried it for three years and the lunch crowd is not there," said owner Richard Yoh.

He said the restaurant had good lunchtime support from the University of Florida and downtown workers, but it was not consistent, adding that their cooked-to-order food didn't always work for people with a one-hour lunch break.

The Warehouse has new management and a new dinner menu with more items, including mahi mahi, chicken marsala, chicken piccata and strip steaks, Yoh said.

* Zaxby's: The new Zaxby's in Alachua opened Oct. 7, about a week later than previously announced.

The fast-casual chicken restaurant is at 16088 NW U.S. 441 off the Interstate 75 Alachua exit.
