FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Down a set early, the No. 2 Florida volleyball team downed Arkansas on Friday at Barnhill Arena, its 12th straight win over the Hogs, to remain perfect in Southeastern Conference play.
The Gators used double-digit kills from four different players to defeat Arkansas 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-16) while sophomore middle blocker Simone Antwi notched a team-high 16.5 points to go with a squad-best .478 hitting efficiency to grind out the victory at Arkansas before the Gators head to undefeated Missouri on Sunday.
Ziva Recek (13), Chloe Mann (13), Simone Antwi (12) and Gabby Mallette (10) all notched double-digit kills for the Gators, the sixth time this season three or more players have done so.
“This was a typical Friday night match on the road in the league with a great attendance and the home team playing with aggressiveness,” Florida coach Mary Wise said. “We pressed a little too much throughout the match, but to win when we weren't at our best is still a positive.”
WOMEN'S TENNIS: At Athens, Ga., all seven Gators combined for an incredible 17-0 singles and doubles record on the first day of play at the 2013 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships.
Not one of the 14 singles matches went to three sets.
“This is the best day we've ever had a regionals,” Florida coach Roland Thornqvist said. “We were incredibly consistent in our play all day. “
