A Lake City man was fatally stabbed early Thursday morning during a fight, reported Columbia County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Pentolino in a press release.
Dead is Deeante Gibson, 21, Pentolino said.
Deputies responding to a fight at 767 NW Amanda St., lot 4, about 12:11 a.m. found Gibson unresponsive on the ground with several stab wounds to his upper body.
Gibson was taken by Columbia County EMS to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Investigators learned a birthday party had taken place in the mobile home. An argument occurred between Gibson’s cousin, Sidney Gibson, and a party-goer named Julie Jones, deputies said.
As Julie Jones and her son, Travon Jones, 22, were returning to their home in the park, they were followed by the Gibsons. Sidney Gibson allegedly punched Julie Jones in the face. Travon Jones tried to help his mother, but was reportedly attacked by Deeante Gibson and knocked to the ground.
During the physical altercation, Deeante Gibson got on top of Travon Jones and began to strike him, deputies said. Travon Jones pulled a pocket knife from his pants pocket and stabbed Deeante Gibson several times, Pentolino said.
Sidney Gibson, 36, was charged with battery while Julie Jones, 42, was charged with tampering with evidence and resisting arrest.
The case is being reviewed by the State Attorney’s Office for additional charges.
