A man and a woman were arrested Sunday night after police say they robbed a woman in a parking lot.
Clifford Taylor IV, 28, of 14115 SE 124th Lane, Archer, approached a woman at 5 p.m. who was leaving the Publix at 4115 NW 16th Blvd., and walking to her car, according to a Gainesville Police Department report.
Taylor grabbed the woman’s purse and ran to a car where Stephanie Ann Cleary, 24, of 5800 SW 20th Ave., Apt. M9, Gainesville, was waiting for him and drove away quickly, the police report said.
Both were found at 7:26 p.m. with the victim’s purse a short distance away from the parking lot. Taylor and Cleary told police they were involved in the robbery, and Taylor said he targeted the victim because she “looked old and couldn’t run,” according to the report.
Cleary told police she was sorry, did not want the victim to get hurt and was willing to pay her back, the report said.
Police said they recognized the pair as suspects in the theft of a wallet that happened on Friday afternoon in the Target parking lot in which a stolen credit card was used around town. Cleary was charged with using a stolen credit card at a Family Dollar, Kwik Stop and Texaco.
Taylor and Cleary were arrested on charges of robbery by sudden snatching in connection with Sunday’s incident, and Cleary was also charged with fraudulent use of a credit card, the report stated.
As of Monday afternoon, both were being held at the Alachua County jail, with Cleary in lieu of $12,000 bond and Taylor in lieu of $10,000 bond.
