The Picks: October brings bigger challenge

Earlier this week on my Dooley Noted podcast, I pointed out that I didn't believe Southern Cal to be a top-tier college football job. This prompted several people to ask me which schools I believe to be at the top.
I feel there are 10 — Florida, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
USC is in the next group that also includes jobs like Clemson, FSU, Auburn and Texas A&M.
You may not agree with me, but I know I'm right. Why? Because I went 10-0 on The Picks last week.
Hey, some guys have it, some guys get fired in an airport after giving up 62 points.
That's 42-8 for the season, but anybody can put up a great record in September. It's crunch time now.
Arkansas at Florida: Florida defensive tackle Damien Jacobs said this week he thinks Arkansas is, “a little chippy. They're a little dirty. So we're going to have to be ready for it all this week. We're gonna have to try to keep our temper and keep cool on that.” So after all of these crazy offensive explosions, we're getting back to good, old-fashioned SEC football? Florida, 21-17.
Maryland at Florida State: Two reasons the Turtles can't be too optimistic about this game — they are 0-11 in Tallahassee and haven't defeated a ranked team on the road since 2008. Their best hope is that Jameis Winston gets dizzy looking at their helmets. FSU, 41-24.
Georgia at Tennessee: I'm not sure I want to see Tennessee playing in “Smokey Gray” uniforms. I saw the preview of them and they look like someone's ashtray. Georgia, 38-21.
LSU at Mississippi State: On Mississippi State's website, every game lists what color the fans should wear. For this one, the west side wears maroon and the east side white. The players will be wearing black and blue. LSU, 34-10.
Ole Miss at Auburn: Steve Spurrier said this week that Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze are two of his favorite coaches because “they both wear visors and they both call plays.” Auburn, 24-20.
Georgia Tech at Miami: I keep hearing how the Techies are a better passing team this season. They lead the ACC in rushing and are last in passing. How is that any different from before? Miami, 30-23.
Kentucky at South Carolina: Here's proof of how the Head Ball Coach has changed things in Columbia — the Gamecocks have lost once to a top-10 team on the road and the season is considered a disappointment so far. South Carolina, 34-7.
Missouri at Vanderbilt: Mizzou is the big mystery team in the SEC because of its soft schedule. Vandy will look like Green Bay compared to who the Tigers have been playing. Vanderbilt, 23-20.
Ohio State at Northwestern: Is Urban Meyer ever going to lose another game? If he doesn't this week, it will be a while. Ohio State, 27-21.
Washington at Stanford: Shouldn't a running back named Bishop Sankey be playing for Notre Dame? Stanford, 30-28.
