Despite being hit hard and often by injuries this season, including losing their starting quarterback and best defensive player for the year, the Gators have managed to win three of four games and continue to play at a high level.

This likely would not have been possible in Will Muschamp’s first season, the Florida coach said Wednesday.

“We’ve got a man down, man up situation here at Florida,” Muschamp said on the SEC coaches’ teleconference. “When you sign to come play here, you expect to compete for and win championships. We don’t make excuses about injuries and things.

“We’ve recruited well. We’re a far cry from where we were two years ago, I can assure you of that. We would not have been able to withstand some of these injuries we have now.

“We’ve recruited well. We have depth on our roster. When guys go down, we expect our competition level to stay the same.”
