Chiefland joins 3 area teams in 1A rankings


Deshawn Roland and the Chiefland Indians, who have already matched their win total of 2012, entered the Class 1A rankings Monday at No. 5.

In the latest Associated Press high school football poll, released Monday, Chiefland joined Union County, Dixie County and Lafayette in the Class 1A rankings at No. 5. The Indians, 5-0 on the season, have equaled their win total from 2012.

Union County (5-0) stays at No. 1 in 1A, garnering 14 of the 16 first-place votes, followed by Blountstown (5-0) at No. 2, Dixie County (3-0) at No. 3, and Lafayette (4-0) at No. 4. There are only five spots in state rankings for 1A, as well as 2A, 3A and 4A.

In Class 6A, Columbia (5-0) held on to No. 2 by one point over No. 3 Armwood, which is also 5-0. Both schools receive two first-place votes while No. 1 Miami Central (3-1) received the other 12.

Trenton (2-1) received votes in 1A and Gainesville (3-1) received one vote in 6A.
