A Gainesville man was arrested Thursday evening after deputies say he threatened his 21-year-old son with a knife after the son ate the man's “good food.”
Anthony G. Smalls, 54, of 827 SW 64th Terrace, Apt. B, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill in the incident, which began around 9:20 p.m., according to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Smalls had gone into his son's bedroom and began yelling at him about eating some of his food, deputies said. He then left the room and returned with a 6-inch-long kitchen knife and threatened to stab his son if he ate “anymore of his good food,” deputies reported.
The Sheriff's Office later responded to the home at just before midnight and arrested Smalls. He was booked into the Alachua County jail, where he remained Friday in lieu of $5,000 bond. Smalls has a lengthy criminal record that includes convictions of battery and petty theft, according to the Alachua County Clerk of Court's Office.
