Two people were killed and another critically injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision in Levy County.

Those killed in the crash were Taslim Alam, 27, of Trenton, and another driver whose name was not released because family had not been notified, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

The accident occurred at 5:10 a.m. on U.S. 19 south of Northwest 153rd Lane.

The unnamed person was southbound in the northbound inside lane in a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee while Alam was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry north, also in the inside lane, FHP reported.

The vehicles collided, and the Jeep became engulfed in flames. The two drivers died at the scene.

Shiran Akther, 23, of Trenton, a passenger in Alam's car, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition.
