A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he cut off a woman's clothing with a knife, held the blade to her chest and asked where her heart is.
Matthew Earl Waldo also beat the woman with a piece of a pool stick until it broke, choked her and cut her with a knife during the nearly two hours he held her captive, according to an Alachua County Sheriff's Office report.
Waldo, 35, of Northeast 78th Lane, returned to the house around 4:45 a.m. after a night of drinking at a bar and became upset at the woman, the report said. He held her down and attacked her with a 4-inch blade, cutting her finger and her clothing and threatening to stab her in the heart.
The woman kicked him off of her and tried to flee, but Waldo began hitting her in the legs with the pool stick until it broke.
He then began choking her until she passed out, the report said, telling her not to make any noise or else he would finish killing her.
The woman ran to her roommate's room at the opposite end of the house and tried to call 911, but Waldo took the phone from her and broke it in half, the report said.
The woman escaped and called deputies from a neighbor's phone. Waldo ran away when deputies arrived, the report said.
Waldo was arrested on charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic battery and obstructing justice. He was being held Wednesday at the Alachua County jail in lieu of $400,000 bond.
