Deputies arrested a Gainesville man Tuesday afternoon after they say he hit another man three times in the face with a baseball bat.
Robert Cappuccio, 21, of 4400 NW 39th Ave., told deputies that Kirk Bishop had taken $150 from him two days before and that he had several friends looking for him, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s report.
Cappuccio saw Bishop around 2 p.m., approached him with a baseball bat and told him to empty his pockets, the report said. Bishop took out a cellphone and several other items before walking away with another man, whom he accused of setting him up.
Bishop and the other man started fighting and Cappuccio hit him in the face with the bat, causing an orbital fracture that required reconstructive surgery at UF Health Shands Hospital, the report said.
Cappuccio was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and robbery. He was being held at the Alachua County jail on Wednesday on $60,000 bond.
