A Gainesville man has been arrested for the Friday robbery of an Interlachen bank -- and he gave the stolen money to authorities when he was charged, reported the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday.

Charged was Fareed Michael Reshard Johnson, 21, for the theft of about $3,000 from the TD Bank on State Road 20.

The robbery occurred about 10:35 a.m. The robber had a manila envelope when he approached the teller and demanded money.

Detectives, acting on a tip that the Marion County Sheriff’s Office received from an informant, began hunting Johnson, the PCSO reported.

After realizing investigators were looking for him, Johnson went to the Sheriff’s Office and turned himself in. Johnson was interviewed and subsequently arrested for the robbery.

Johnson returned the money taken during the robbery to investigators, PCSO reported. The cash will be held as evidence.
