Jerome Fuller had a thirst for beer but not enough money Saturday evening, and his bad attitude landed him in jail after police said he threw a can of beer and hit a store clerk.
Fuller, 58, of 905 NE 19th St., was in line a Kangaroo convenience store at 20 NE Waldo Road around 6:20 p.m. when the clerk heard him yelling and cursing, according to a Gainesville Police report.
The clerk, Serena Dykstra, told Fuller he did not have enough money to pay for the beer and he needed to either get a cheaper can or come up with more money, the report said.
Fuller continued cursing and told her, “Well, you go get me another beer, then!’’ Dykstra said that she was the only employee in the store and there were other people in line so she could not leave the counter.
Fuller yelled louder and cursed more as he went to the cooler and picked a larger can of beer, the report said. Dykstra said she would not serve him because of his cursing and yelling, and handed him back his money. Fuller snatched it and threw the large can of beer at her, hitting her in the right shoulder, before he left the store.
Officer Jeff Bailey was one street away when he got the call and stopped Fuller.
Fuller was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery and was being held Sunday at the Alachua County jail on a $10,000 bond.
