Two deadlines approaching for public school students

Two important deadlines are fast approaching for Alachua County public school students.

The school district is encouraging all students who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch to apply for the program by Sept. 26.

Eligibility for students who received free or reduced-price lunch last year will expire Oct. 1. To avoid any lapse in benefits, school officials are pushing the Sept. 26 deadline.

Last year, about 54 percent of public school students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch.

The deadline for parents to sign up students for the FluMist program was extended to Sept. 30.

The free immunization is offered to all students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in October, but students must return a signed consent form to their school by Sept. 30 to receive FluMist.
