Mark Bostick Golf Course will be full of cross country runners on Saturday morning as the 25th annual Mountain Dew Invitational takes over with college and high school participants.
Mountain Dew Invitational
Where: Mark Bostick Golf Course at UF
Field: 72 girls teams, 69 boys teams entered
Start time: Boys, 9:05 a.m.; girls, 9:35 a.m.
Note: Last year Oak Hall took second to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas in girls competition
There are 69 boys teams and 72 girls entered from across the state to take on the hilly course. Among the field are several local schools: Bradford, Buchholz, Eastside, Gainesville, Keystone Heights, Newberry, Oak Hall, P.K. Yonge and Santa Fe.
Last year, Oak Hall finished runner-up in the girls competition to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, which will be in the field again this year. The Eagles have six runners among the area's top 10 times, led by senior Brittney Olinger.
Last year's girls champion, Alexa Cruz, is expected to run.
Boys defending champion Miami Belen Jesuit Prep is not entered. The area's top runner, Joseph Janson of P.K. Yonge, will be in the field as well as Drew Monteau of Buchholz, who missed last year because of a stress fracture.
“St. Thomas is probably the best (girls) team in the state in all classifications,” said Oak Hall coach Ed McTureous. “It will be a pretty stacked field. The course is not easy, there are challenging hills.”
