In 1963, Del McCoury became the lead singer/guitarist of the Blue Grass Boys — beginning his musical career in the band led by bluegrass founder Bill Monroe. On Thursday, McCoury, second from right, leads his own band at the Phillips Center in a concert also featuring husband-and-wife banjoists Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn. The performance is part of a tour celebrating McCoury's 50 years in music.

The Beatles tribute band The Impostors will perform songs from “Revolver” and the “White Album” along with sing-along versions of “With a Little Help From My Friends” and “Yellow Submarine” in this week's “Free Fridays” concert.

On Saturday, visitors can “hang ten” on the Robo-surfer surfing simulator in the Florida Museum of Natural History's Surfing Celebration from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event, which also features demonstrations and tables manned by such organizations as the UF Surf Team, celebrates the museum's new exhibits, “Surfing Florida” and “Surf Science.”

Picture this: The Kanapaha Botanical Gardens Paint Out will have 22 artists capturing the gardens' bucolic setting Friday through Sunday, and visitors will be able to peruse their works for purchase in a reception planned Sept. 19 in the Summer House Gallery.
