A 77-year-old Trenton man was killed Sunday afternoon when his SUV collided with a pickup truck on U.S. 19 in Dixie County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Harlyn A. Pfaffenberger was headed north on the highway at 1:25 p.m. in a 1995 GMC traveling behind a 1995 International pickup driven by Benjamin Robert Barber Jr., 56, of Old Town.
As Barber slowed to turn right into a private drive at 24347 SE U.S. 19, Pfaffenberger failed to slow in time to avoid the truck, the FHP reported.
Pfaffenberger struck the other vehicle’s left rear and veered into the left and off the highway onto the grass median. The SUV re-entered the highway and overturned.
Barber was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in serious condition, according to the FHP.
