A Cross City man was killed early Thursday morning when his speeding car went more than 100 feet in the air before crashing on a Dixie County road, according to a report.
Forlepay Lee Jenkins, 49, was headed south on County Road 351, 10 miles north of Cross City near County Road 351-A, at 1 a.m. He was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Impala LT at an estimated 81 mph in a posted 45 mph zone, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Jenkins sped through a left curve in the road, over-compensated, and veered onto a grassy shoulder. He then hit a raised private driveway at 9368 NE CR-351 and the car vaulted 114 feet before overturning and skidding 116 feet on its roof, according to a report.
Jenkins, who was alone in the car and not wearing a seat belt, died from his injuries, the report said.
