The Gainesville Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying the armed robber who held up David's Real Pit BBQ on Aug. 18.

At about 8:30 p.m. that Sunday, the robber entered with a handgun and demanded all the cash in the register. He also collected two employees' cellphones but hid them under a counter as he fled out the back door, according to the Gainesville Police Department.

A police dog tracked the robber from the restaurant at 521 NE 23rd Ave. in the direction of the McCoy Apartments. Police were told that a late-1990s model cream-colored sport utility vehicle was seen speeding south on Northwest Second Street and west on 16th Avenue.

The robber was described as a 35- to 40-year-old, 5-foot-10 black man of medium build wearing a colorful bandana over his face and more than one jacket.

GPD is asking people with information to call Detective Farrah Lormil at 393-7616 or text keyword “GPDFL” plus your tip to 274637.
