The clothes and medicine tossed on the front lawn were the first clues to neighbors that something was wrong inside the Hawthorne house.
When relatives of Roger Henderson arrived on Saturday afternoon to check on him, they found his long-dead body on the floor. His live-in girlfriend, Claudia Bunch Dallas, told them simply, “Yes, I know he’s dead,” before walking back into a rear bedroom, according to a report.
Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies later needed a K-9 deputy to flush Dallas, 52, out of the bedroom at 6818 SE 215th St. She was accused of killing the 64-year-old man, who was stabbed multiple times.
Dallas later told investigators that she had thrown Henderson’s clothing out of the house. “The only person that can judge me is my father, the Lord Jesus himself,” she told deputies, the report said.
She told them that she had been sent from God to be a confessor and that she would rather just be silent.
Investigators say Henderson’s relatives, alerted by neighbors, went to the house and found his body, which had numerous stab wounds in his upper chest, back, shoulder and buttocks, the report said.
Evidence, including pools of dried blood and the presence of insects, indicated he had been dead for a long time.
Deputies arrived and called for Dallas to come out, but she stayed seated on a bed in the rear bedroom with her arms folded. Using a shield marked “SHERIFF,’’ deputies went into the house and told her to come out or they would send in the police dog.
She didn’t, and they did.
Dallas was arrested and taken to UF Health Shands Hospital for her injuries.
Deputies found a knife outside in the garbage which had red stains on it and presumptively tested positive for blood. The knife was consistent with the wounds on Henderson’s body, the report said.
Dallas, who had been living with Henderson for about a year, told deputies that they had been arguing about him having another girlfriend.
She was arrested on charges of murder and obstruction without violence. She was being held on $1,015,000 bond on Sunday at the Alachua County jail.
