School: P.K. Yonge Sport: Baseball Position: Pitcher Height: 5-foot-11 Weight: 160 pounds College chosen: Alabama State Other schools considered: Santa Fe College Stats: A three-sport athlete his senior year, Turner averaged 17.5 points per game on the basketball team and also threw for 1,515 yards as the Blue Wave's starting quarterback. However, it was Turner's 1.88 ERA as a relief pitcher that caught the eye of Alabama State, which offered him a scholarship in late June while he attended a baseball camp. A .246 batter with 14 runs last season, Turner finished his Blue Wave career on the mound with 19 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched and two saves for Class 3A regional semifinalist P.K. Yonge. Quotable: “I was really surprised. I've always had a knack for throwing. In football I was the quarterback, so I always had a pretty good arm, but it was a real surprise for me. I'm still learning a lot about pitching, so I'm definitely ready to get better.” — Van Turner
