A Waldo man was arrested Saturday afternoon after police said he threatened to shoot his girlfriend of 13 years in the head with a 9mm handgun.
Robert “Wade” Morgan, 53, walked into the bathroom of room number 11 at the Tropix Inn Motel, at 14020 NE U.S. 301, at 2:45 p.m. and pointed a black pistol at his girlfriend's forehead, according to a Waldo Police Department report.
Morgan threatened to shoot to the woman if she tried to leave, moving the barrel of the gun from her forehead to the right side of her chest, to her heart and then back to her forehead, the report said.
Morgan showed the woman that the gun was loaded. He told her not to call the police or he would kill her and then himself if she did, police said.
The woman begged Morgan not to shoot and agreed with his requests, she told police.
Morgan left the bathroom, and the woman soon followed and left the room to walk her dog. She walked to another hotel room and called 911.
The woman told police that Morgan had placed a gun to her head three times before the incident on Saturday but she had always been too afraid of Morgan to call police.
In addition to the 9mm, police found a .22 caliber handgun in the hotel room.
Morgan was in the Alachua County jail Sunday on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment. His bond was $200,000.
