The Florida Gators are opening the season as a consensus top-10 team. That became official Saturday with the release of the preseason Associated Press poll, which has the Gators ranked No. 10, the same spot UF holds in the coaches' poll.
Defending national champion Alabama was the overwhelming choice to start the season at No. 1. The Tide received 58 of 60 first-place votes in the AP poll. Ohio State is No. 2.
Just like the coaches' poll, two of the Gators' Eastern Division rivals are ranked ahead of them in the AP rating. Georgia is No. 5, while South Carolina is No. 6.
There are five SEC teams in the top 10 — Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas A&M (7) and Florida.
Florida State is ranked just behind UF at No. 11, while Miami opens the season unranked in both the coaches' poll and the AP.
