Broward deputies fatally shoot woman

COOPER CITY — Broward Sheriff's deputies fatally shot a 44-year-old woman following a brief standoff outside a home in a suburban neighborhood.

The shooting happened in the Rock Creek community of Cooper City just after 9:30 a.m.

Local television stations reported the deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who said she planned to shoot people in the neighborhood. Arriving deputies found her in the street with a gun. She refused to drop the weapon and pointed it at them. The deputies shot her.

The woman was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No further details were immediately available.
