Pair of Gators earn career best finishes at worlds

BARCELONA — Freshman Sinead Russell and junior Hilda Luthersdottir enjoyed their highest career finishes in international events during the seventh day of competition at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. In addition, Ryan Lochte wrapped up his competition with his sixth top-six performance of the meet.

Russell placed seventh in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:10.46, topping her eighth place finish in the event at the 2012 Olympics.

Luthersdottir earned her second semi-final swim of the meet, placing 13th in the 50 breaststroke with an Icelandic record of 31.37. In the prelims, Luthersdottir took the last qualifying spot, placing 16th with a time of 31.50.

In the final day of competition, junior Elizabeth Beisel and sophomore Dan Wallace will compete in the 400 individual medley. The event will consist of a prelim round and a final round.
