The Florida Gators opened their preseason football camp Friday confident that their starting quarterback will be back soon, and pretty much in playing shape.
They can't say the same about their starting tailback, Matt Jones, who is still recovering from a viral infection with no timetable for a return.
“We're in a little bit of uncharted waters here exactly about him coming back and when that's going to happen and how good of health he's going to be in,” UF coach Will Muschamp said.
The prognosis for Driskel is more clearly defined. He underwent appendectomy surgery Tuesday and will be sidelined for the first week, possibly a little longer, depending on how quickly he heals.
In the meantime, fourth-year junior Tyler Murphy has taken over as the No. 1 quarterback.
“I thought he did some nice things,” Muschamp said. “I thought he made some good decisions and checks in the run game. I thought he did a nice job.”
