My assignment was to go out to the farm and shoot a portrait of co-owner and farmer Melissa DeSa for this issue of Gainesville Magazine. Working for both the magazine and The Gainesville Sun, a photo journalist's mission with every daily assignment is to come back with stories for our readers, so, when I arrived I noticed a group of high school students working the farm, picking wildflowers while butterflies danced about them. After shooting the portrait, my attention turned to the students and their mission, which was to earn community service hours with the University of Florida Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership and Sustainability's Gainesville Summer Service Project. So while the students worked, I worked alongside, capturing them and the butterflies, and bringing back a daily feature for the newspaper as well as photos for this issue of the magazine.
