Jacksonville’s post-junk rock quartet, Memphibians, has just the right amount of pop and rock, leaning heavier on the rock side of things. The group’s last record, “The Dirty Future EP,” is about as lo-fi as you can get without sounding like noise being driven through a tin can. But they embrace it rather than try to mask it, and the songs are better for it. Speaking of the music, it’s a nice mesh of The Clash’s penchant for all things spooky with a Modern Lovers’ structure and a Tom Waits-esque vocal style. Memphibians are definitely worth your undivided attention.
You can give them the ego boost most musicians need during an out-of-town performance by heading down Friday to Mars Pub and Arcade and cheering them on. And don’t forget to get there on time to see local alt-rockers Ancient River and RadRadRiot, from Little Rock, Ark., starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
