Sherilyn Bennett's passion for empowering women and girls, combined with her artistic talents, have given birth to Spiritual Sweets LLC, an online T-shirt boutique with a ministry component.
"The mission of Spiritual Sweets is to build a brand with which women and young girls of the Christian faith can identify," said Bennett, a minister at PASSAGE Family Church who holds a degree in advertising design with a background in news and graphic design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
Bennett said the heart of Spiritual Sweets rests on three foundational pillars and scriptures. They are: Purity (Romans 12:1), service (Colossians 3:23-24) and goals (Philippians 4:13).
"The goal of Spiritual Sweets is to equip young ladies with the tools needed to achieve and maintain the three foundational pillars," said Bennett.
There also is a ministry kit available based on the foundational pillars to minister to girls ages 5-18. It consists of a CD and workbooks. Bennett said churches and organizations can use the kit as an instructional tool to empower girls to stay pure, achieve academic success and give back through service.
Bennett said the T-shirts are made of preshrunk cotton and come in a variety of colors and three styles — tank top, hoodies and a T-shirt with a scooped neck and capped sleeves — and are imprinted with "Spiritually Sweet" on the front. The cost is $15 for the tanks and T-shirts and $20 for the hoodies.
"These tees are for everyone, regardless of their religion," Bennett said. "They carry a positive message that would benefit everyone. And they're pretty and comfortable."
The styles can be viewed now at www.spiritualsweets.com and will be available for purchase online when the website debuts later this month. But don't worry because you can purchase items now by calling Bennett at 352-292-2293.
"I think it's important for girls to know they were born spiritually sweet," said Bennett. "Sometimes young girls lack in self-esteem and self-worth. But how can we be disappointed with their choices when we haven't taken the time to teach them they are special and they have self-worth."
Bennett said the vision for the Spiritual Sweets apparel was inspired by God years ago, but she didn't know how to present it to the world. Bennett said the Rev. George Dix, pastor of PASSAGE Family Church, inspired her to move forward with her clothing line through his teachings that suggested that "when we launch a business, we should tie it to the Kingdom of God (meaning helping people)."
"These tees are more than clothing," said Bennett. "It's a Christian-style brand for girls and women. They can use the tees to witness the word."
