The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is trying to counter the slower summer months for its restaurant members by holding the second Gainesville Restaurant Week, which actually covers 11 days.
From Thursday through Aug. 4, 19 restaurants will be offering special discounted menus for the event. Details are available at GainesvilleRestaurantWeek.com.
Mildred's Big City Food and Blue Gill Quality Foods will participate again after owner Bert Gill said his restaurants outpaced their usual sales at last year's event, according to a news release.
The week starts with the Chamber After Hours event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Parks Ford Lincoln of Gainesville with at least nine of the restaurants offering samples. The event is free to Chamber members and $20 to nonmembers.
