Drill team, majorette troop members honored at banquet

The Flossie B. McLendon Memorial Drill Team and Majorette Troop held its seventh annual Awards and Achievement Banquet Saturday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Robert Harris, a 2013 graduate of Gainesville High School, received the Most Distinguished Alumnus Award, Antoine Turner received the Leadership Award and Darius Daniels received the Dedication and Service awards.

All majorettes were awarded certificates. The commander of the group is Bernard Hicks.

Diane Hill, principal of Lake Forest Elementary School, presided over the banquet program.

Dr. Shelton Davis, a retired Alachua County educator, was the keynote speaker and Gainesville city Commissioner Yvonne Hayes Hinson-Rawls attended the banquet and also offered remarks.

Antione played the xylophone during the banquet and members of Harmony Revision sang during the banquet. Members are, Brittany Crawford, Xavier Crawford, Jaquez Crawford and William Crawford.
