The building of a larger liquor store meant the closing of an older, smaller one.
The ABC Fine Wine & Spirits at 2301 NW Sixth St. closed in early July because of the expansion of the ABC store at 5820 NW 34th Blvd.
“It’s not really cost effective to put two of those stores within just a couple miles of each other,” said Lorena Streeter, ABC spokeswoman.
The stores are about three miles apart.
The 3,500-square-foot store on 34th Boulevard was demolished and replaced with a 10,000-square-foot building that features more beers and wines.
“It’s an entirely different building. We would anticipate that that would absorb a lot of the business from other stores anyway,” Streeter said. “That kind of makes the Sixth Street store kind of a nonstarter.”
Streeter said the future of the Sixth Street property has not been determined yet.
