The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce is trying to counter the slower summer months for its restaurant members by holding the second Gainesville Restaurant Week, which actually covers 11 days.

From Thursday through Aug. 4, 19 restaurants are offering special discounted menus for the event. Details are available at GainesvilleRestaurantWeek.com.

Mildred’s Big City Food and Blue Gill Quality Foods will participate again after owner Bert Gill said his restaurants outpaced their usual sales at last year’s event, according to a news release.

The week starts with the Chamber After Hours event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Parks Ford Lincoln of Gainesville with at least nine of the restaurants offering samples. The event is free to Chamber members and $20 to nonmembers.

Yogurtology

Frozen yogurt shop Yogurtology opened July 15 as the first tenant to open in the new Shoppes at Butler Plaza at 3730 Archer Road.

Yogurtology offers more than 100 different frozen treat flavors with 12 to 14 rotating each week, including nondairy sorbets, classic sweet yogurt or what the company calls its “Premiyum” flavors such as No Chip Cookie Dough, Iced Lemon Pound Cake, Gingerbread Crumbs and Caramel Yogurtccino, according to a news release.

The shop offers kosher and gluten-free treats, and the frozen yogurt includes probiotics.

The Gainesville store is the eighth franchise location in Florida owned by two Tampa families, partner Jordan Levy said. Yogurtology is based in Arizona, which has six locations.

Pink Narcissus

Pink Narcissus, with Lilly Pulitzer women’s clothing, previously announced it will open in the Shoppes at Butler Plaza and is on track to open the first or second week of August, said Kristin Mamula, marketing associate at Butler Enterprises.

The Shoppes, with four suites, was built on the former site of a building that last housed Floor Trader.

Panda Express

A Panda Express with a drive-thru is under construction on the former site of Long John Silver’s at 710 NW 60th St. on Newberry Road and will open sometime in the fall, said Mike Everage, real estate manager for the company.

Panda Expressed opened a location in front of Butler Plaza last fall on the site of a former Captain D’s.

Blue Gill Quality Foods

Blue Gill Quality Foods has opened a private dining room that can accommodate parties and events of 10 to 100 people.

Blue Gill is at 1310 SW 13th St., on the first floor of the Shands parking garage.
