CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals have signed defensive end Carlos Dunlap to a five-year contract extension.

The Bengals announced the deal Tuesday, but didn't immediately release details. According to, it's a six-year, $40 million contract. He is set to earn $20 million over the next two seasons. Another $4.5 million is available in incentives. Dunlap's contract would have expired after this season, but it now runs through 2018.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Dunlap is a fourth-year pro from University of Florida. He had 55 tackles and six sacks in 14 games last season. He led the Bengals in combined fumbles forced and recovered with seven total.

In a 20-13 victory over San Diego, he had two sacks and forced fumbles, and recovered one late in the game to preserve the victory. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for that. He had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown against Baltimore.

The Bengals open training camp July 24.
