The driver of a FedEx delivery truck that was struck by a train in Hawthorne earlier this month has died from his injuries, according to a report.
Martin Beckles, 51, of Ocala, was attempting to cross railroad tracks and pull into a private driveway off U.S. 301 just before 4 p.m. on July 3 when the accident occurred, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
A southbound CSX train enroute to the Tampa/Bradenton area slammed into the passenger side of the delivery van amid heavy rain. The crossing does not have a cross arm.
With two locomotives and more than 30 rail cars, it took the train about a half-mile to come to a stop. The passenger side door of the van was attached to the front of the lead locomotive.
Beckles was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he died on Wednesday.
