A pedestrian walking within the roadway on Alternate U.S. 27 was killed in a crash in Levy County Tuesday night when a driver was unable to avoid hitting him.

Kaleb Carter, of Bronson, was walking north on the highway while David Letchworth, 48, of Valrico, was driving north in the right lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

Letchworth couldn’t avoid the crash and struck Carter with the right front of the Dodge Charger he was driving around 9:47 p.m.

Carter sustained fatal injuries and Levy County EMS pronounced him dead on the scene. Letchworth was the only person in the car and was not injured.

The incident is under investigation.
