CordaRoy’s preps for second dip in the Shark Tank

After their server crashed during the first airing, CordaRoy’s will be ready for Friday’s rerun of the “Shark Tank” episode featuring the Gainesville bed-in-a-beanbag company.
With more than 7 million people watching the March 8 broadcast, CordaRoy’s website went from 23 visitors to 25,000 before crashing, the rush of sales stopping cold.
Owner Byron Young has since hired 352 Media Group to maintain the site that he said can now handle more than 200,000 visitors when the episode airs again at 9 p.m. Friday on ABC.
“Shark Tank” features entrepreneurs trying to convince wealthy investors to finance their ideas. Young accepted Lori Greiner’s offer of $200,000 for a 58 percent stake in his 16-year-old company. He said they have since “tweaked the deal a little” but declined to say how.
Despite the crash, Young said CordaRoy’s sales are on pace to double from last year’s $1.4 million in sales since the show aired and several deals are in the works that are expected to accelerate that pace.
QVC has placed an initial order of about $250,000 for a planned October daily deal with an appearance by Young and Greiner, who is a regular on the shopping network.
“It’s like the golden ticket,” Young said of the QVC deal.
He said they are trying to time that with a “Shark Tank” followup episode on CordaRoy’s.
Bed Bath and Beyond is also reviewing product samples and Young said they are hopeful of getting in stores by the end of the year.
“We figured we’ll double sales no matter what,” Young said. “That’s not including the QVC and Bed Bath and Beyond deals.”
