Broad ‘Avenue'

"Avenue Q," the award-winning musical whose coming-of-age tale is told by actors with puppets, has been extended through July 21 at the Hippodrome Theatre.

On Tuesday, trumpeter Gary Langford performs his annual concert for the Gainesville Friends of Jazz at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Musicians joining the former UF bandleader include pianist Frank Sullivan and trumpeter Scott Wilson.

Also Tuesday, the UF School of Theatre and Dance production of "Brighton Beach Memoirs," Neil Simon's semi-autobiographical comedy about growing up in 1930s Brooklyn, returns for a second engagement that continues through Sunday.

"Dark Nights," the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre's series of performances between mainstage productions, features the Much Ado About Doris Improv Group on Wednesday and Thursday; UF's Theatre Strike Force on Friday; and "In Heat," the Alachua County Rapscallions' 24-hour playfest event in which teams of four actors perform a short play written and produced within 24 hours, on Saturday.
