An Alachua man was arrested Saturday afternoon and accused of attempting to sexually assault a 16-year-old boy.
The suspect, 38, arrived at the victim’s residence Saturday afternoon and asked the victim if he wanted to play darts and video games at the suspect’s house, according to the Alachua Police Department.
The suspect’s name is withheld because, according to his family and the victim’s family, he has a mental disability. The victim does, as well, the families told police.
While at his home, the suspect asked the victim to play strip poker. The two played the game, with the suspect removing all of his clothes except his underwear. The victim told police he removed only his shirt.
Police allege that the suspect then touched the victim and attempted a sexual assault. The victim told the man to stop and left for a friend’s house. The suspect told the victim not to tell anyone and then followed the boy, police said.
The victim’s friend was not at home, so the boy went to his house and told his mother about the incident, according to a police report.
The suspect told police the sexual overture was an accident. He was booked into the Alachua County jail and held on a charge of attempted sexual battery.
