Two Lake City residents were killed and a child seriously injured Friday afternoon when their car was hit by a truck exiting Interstate 10 in Baker County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Richard Owen Ratliff, 60, and Anne Rykard Ratliff, 58, died in the crash. Passenger Bentley Bennett, 3, of Lake City, is hospitalized at UF Health Jacksonville in serious condition.

The accident happened about 1:25 p.m. on U.S. 90 at I-10. FHP reported that Georgia Ann Gray, 55, of Berkley Springs, W.V., was exiting I-10 eastbound driving a 2013 Freightliner while Richard Ratliff was westbound on U.S. 90 driving a 2002 Ford Taurus, according to FHP.

Gray stopped the semi at the stop sign and attempted to cross U.S. 90 to go into the parking lot of a service station, the release from FHP states. She crossed into the westbound lane and hit the left rear side of Ratliff's car. The car spun out of control, crossed the eastbound lanes, traveled into a ditch, overturned and struck a tree with its roof.

The release does not indicate if the Ratliffs were wearing seatbelts. Bentley Bennett was in a seatbelt.

Charges are pending further investigation, FHP reported.
